SAMÂ PERRY
Visual Artist
As a sculptor, I work in wood constructions. My subject matter is the built environment and I take my inspiration from our city skylines: urban residuals, forgotten follies, towers, rooftop pinnacles, lanterns, belvedere structures and spires. High in the skylines of our urban environments this architectural residue persists at the periphery of our vision and on the edge of our consciousness. These structures reflect history, religion, power, civic pride, functionality, and the human desire to escape the crowded surfaces of our cities and lift our perspective to the panorama of the skyline. Like a cross-section through human endeavour, they offer us a portrait of ourselves, our sense of dislocation, our spiritual longings and aspirations.
